At Easter, things finally got going again - six racing events for the German gallopers (including some trotting races in Saarbrücken and Sonsbeck) within three days. The fans of the sport have been waiting for a long time for thoroughbreds to be in action again from north to south and from west to east, even at parallel events. And of course, as could already be seen on the first days of racing, the atmosphere is once again magnificent when spectators are allowed to be present in their usual numbers.
The pandemic seemed endless, but now we all hope that normality has returned, at least for the next weeks and months, when the really big highlights are coming up, the group race days, the meetings, but also the evening races. The winter was not particularly hard in terms of temperatures, but we were very weaned with very few race days, which then also took place in front of mostly empty crowds.
It could be a trend-setting year in Turf here, with the celebrations of the 200th anniversary and the multi-day race festivals as we know them from the past. Overall, however, it has to be said that German racing has still come through the last two years relatively well. For with the exception of the hard lockdown from March to May 2020, there have been racing events throughout, albeit significantly fewer than in the past. The mammoth programmes of up to 12 or 13 races in one day, as practised in the Corona heyday, seem to be a thing of the past, and that`s a good thing. Because that was really a lot in some cases. Who can hold out for six, seven hours at a stretch for a race event? We, at any rate, are looking forward to this spring and summer, also and especially in German gallop sport. When everything is almost like it used to be.
