German hopes in the Prix de l`Arc de Triomphe
Paris-Longchamp, Sunday, 2 October: The 101st edition of the Prix de l`Arc de Triomphe (4th race/16.05 h/5 million Euro/2400 m) is the outstanding event in Longchamp today. From the German point of view, there are three times to cross one`s fingers. Mendocino, Mare Australis and last year`s winner Torquator Tasso will take on 17 competitors.

In detail these are:

1. Mishriff (William Buick) - still winless in 2022, but always prominently placed. Will be used as a stud in the future.

2. Toraquator Tasso (Frankie Dettori) - Last year`s Arc winner and runner-up in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

3. Mare Australis (Bauyrzhan Murzabayev) - Group 1 winner at this track, disappointing seventh last time out, has not been at the expiry since July.

4. Sealiway (Mickael Barzalona) - Won the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere here, finished four and a half lengths behind Torquator Tasso last year.

5. Alenquer (Tom Marquand) - Comes from German breeding, runs for foreign interests. Had nothing to do with last year`s `Arc` decision. Only saw Luxembourg from behind in the Champion Stakes.

6. Deep Bond (Yuga Kawada) - Multi-Millionaire from Japan, last year without a chance. Won the Prix Foy before. Ran last time at home and came in fourth.

7. Broome (Wayne Lordan) - Finished last year, won the Hardwicke Stakes this year.

8. Stay Foolish (Christophe-Patrice Lemaire) - Very good second in the Grand Prix de Deauville to Botany, who was on expiry in the Prix Dollar yesterday. Sure winner in the Dubai Gold Cup at Meydan.

9. Mostahdaf (Jim Crowley) - Successful dress rehearsal at Kempton over sand, good second in the Hardwicke Stakes to Broome.

10. Mendocino (Rene Piechulek) - Beat Torquator Tasso in Baden-Baden, threatened with a reversal of form today.

11. titleholder (Kazuo Yokoyama) - Next Japanese hope, who clearly showed Deep Bond the irons last time in Hanshin.

12. Bubble Gift (Olivier Peslier) - Didn`t go wrong behind the winner in the `warm up` in the Prix Foy. Finished not far from an `Arc` placing in 2021.

13. Grand Glory (Maxime Guyon) - One of two mares. Two-time track winner this year, last out in Prix Vermeille with no opportunities.

14. Alpinista (Luke Morris) - Serial winner in Germany and unbeaten this year.

15. Vadeni (Christophe Soumillon) - French Derby winner and currently third in the Irish Champion Stakes.

16. Al Hakeem (Cristian Demuro) - Fourth in the Derby behind Vadeni. Bigpoint at Deauville at Group 2 level.

17. Onesto (Stephane Pasquier) - Honourable defeat in the Irish Champion Stakes. Winner in the Grand Prix de Paris after struggle.

18. Westover (Rob Hornby) - Won the Irish Derby. Disappointed badly at Ascot well behind Torquator Tasso.

19. Do Deuce (Yutaka Take) - Japanese Derby winner. Had nothing to report in the Prix Niel.

20. Luxembourg (Ryan Moore) - Showed further improvement when triumphing in the Irish Champion Stakes. Seen by many as the new `Arc` winner.
