The sand track season in Dortmund is slowly entering its final phase. One gets the impression that everyone is looking forward to a change, even though the race day on 27 February in Mülheim, and thus grass track racing, was unfortunately cancelled. Mini starter fields, especially in the age-weight races, different sand conditions and therefore race courses that were not always real, characterised the most recent events.
There is anticipation for the grass days with highlight races, whether in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Hoppegarten or wherever. But it will be another month or two before there is more to offer in this country. The focus is currently on the races in the Persian Gulf or at the meeting in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
Important: More spectators must be allowed soon. Ghost races should be a thing of the past. In football, too, more is possible in the meantime, and there is hardly any danger of a Corona infection at a racecourse. The organisers have to get planning security again. At the moment, we can only look enviously at other countries.
We are pretty sure that the Cheltenham Festival in March, for example, will be staged with huge crowds. Because in England, all kinds of restrictions have fallen. At least a 50-percent capacity like before Corona should be allowed again, the way back to normality, it is more important than ever, just like a change from the grey sand track everyday life.
