US coach Wesley Ward: Royal Ascot in his sights again
When his name appears on the Royal Ascot race card, the highest attention is required. US coach Wesley Ward is usually very successful with his guest appearances at the royal meeting. It is unlikely to be any different in 2022.

In any case, the planning for 2022 is already in full swing. Wesley Ward is looking forward to the chance to bring Golden Pal back to Royal Ascot after he left his rivals behind in the Group II Shakertown Stakes at Keeneland.

"Golden Pal is just a very special horse," Ward told Bloodhorse.com. "My assistant Julio Garcia is the one who nurtures him. Horses that are that fast can be very demanding with injuries, and Julio is a master with his hands. He makes sure he can relax in the morning and gets him fit enough to go into this race healthy."

Golden Pal has run twice before on British shores and was second in the Norfolk Stakes in 2020. Most recently he was a poor seventh in last year`s Nunthorpe Stakes at York, and Ward hopes he can make amends in 2022.

"I`m sure Golden Pal will come out of the race as well as he came in, just because of the nature of the turf. I`m looking forward to going to Ascot and showing what he can do there," he said.

Golden Pal was highly touted after his success in the King`s Stand Stakes , and Ward believes he could be even better this year. The trainer added: "Golden Pal has done really well as a four-year-old and I`m looking forward to the Breeders` Cup here in the autumn. It was very generous of Coolmore to leave a horse like this in training."
