Deauville, Tuesday, 2 August: Nine races will be run today with the first start at 1.10 pm in Deauville. Four handicaps (including the Quinté race for the finale at 6 pm), one Listed race, three Group III tests and an examination at the highest sporting level are on the programme. The latter is the Prix Rothschild (Europe Group I) over the mile, which is endowed with 300,000 Euros. The seven mares will set off at 3.33 pm.
Who will succeed last year`s winner Mother Earth? Most likely to catch the eye is Tenebrism, trained in Ireland by Aidan O`Brien and ridden by Ryan-Lee Moore. The mare won the Prix Jean Prat, which also belongs to Group I, a good three weeks ago with an advantage of a length and therefore comes to the course here with the best references. Saffron Beach (William Buick) is a fresh winner from the Royal Ascot meeting. On the Royal track, the mare was successful in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes (Group II). Among the domestic mares, Malavath (Christophe Soumillon) should have the best chances. At the start of the 2022 season, she won the Prix Imprudence (Group III) on heavy ground. Pearls Galore (William James Lee) enters in top form, winning a Group II exam at the Curragh after a List victory and then also finishing second at this level. Reparation is on the cards in the case of Sibila Spain (Aurelien Lemaitre). After her narrow Saint-Cloud victory in May in the Prix du Muguet (Group II), she failed one level higher to finish fifth in Newmarket.
