They are the salt in the soup of betting possibilities. If we disregard the relatively new "7 wins!" bet, which has so far failed to live up to expectations, then the four-horse bets are the great hopes of the race organisers. As a rule, considerable turnover is achieved here.
Even if the guaranteed sum made available is not quite reached, the betting volume in this type of bet is still respectable. It would even be considerably more if decent starting fields could be set up again. At the moment it has become tricky to get 12 or even 14 horses together in a handicap. One remembers the great competitions in Hamburg or Baden-Baden in the past. It was a real puzzle.
But for some time now, racing clubs have had to work harder and harder to get ten or eleven candidates into a field. Every starter brings additional turnover. Conversely, this means that every horse less costs money, especially in the four-horse betting. Especially here, attractive odds are so important. Otherwise, customers lose interest. With the ever decreasing number of horses in Germany, a reversal of the trend is hardly in sight.
