Goodwood, Wednesday, 2 August: The `Glorious Goodwood` Festival enters its second round today. Six horses will compete in the Sussex Stakes (4th race/16.35/1m pounds/1609m). Last year`s triumph was Baaeed, owned by Shadwell Estate, trained by William Haggas and ridden by Jim Crowley.
With Aldaary (Jim Crowley), who finished second beaten four lengths in the Summer Mile Stakes (Group 2) last time, the blue and white colours are once again prominently represented, but it will be difficult to win. Paddington (Ryan Moore) from Aidan O`Brien`s quarters is the one to beat. The three-year-old was currently safely ahead by half a length in the Eclipse Stakes (Group 1). Inspiral (Frankie Dettori), who was only narrowly beaten in the Queen Anne Stakes (Group 1) and for whom John and Thady Gosden are responsible, can also count on first chances. Facteur Cheval (Maxime Guyon) battled to victory in the Prix d`Ispahan (Group 1). Together with Chindit (Pat Dobbs), who came in just under five lengths behind Inspiral at Ascot, and Charyn (David Egan), who pleased with placings at Ascot and at the Curragh behind Paddington, he is one of the outsiders.
